Pauls Valley Incident Under Investigation
Pauls Valley, OK — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating a death involving a possible explosive device following a police pursuit and standoff in Garvin County.
According to authorities, just after 10 a.m. Friday, officers with the Pauls Valley Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop near North Walnut Street and West Grant Avenue. The driver fled, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit exceeding 100 miles per hour and nearly colliding with multiple patrol vehicles.
The pursuit moved west into Garvin County, where deputies from the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office joined in. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Derek Davidson, ultimately led law enforcement to his residence near North County Road 3260 and East County Road 1550, where he barricaded himself inside the home.
During the standoff, officers attempted to make contact and requested assistance from the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department tactical unit. While negotiations were ongoing, authorities say an explosive device detonated inside the residence, resulting in Davidson’s death.
The surrounding area was evacuated as a precaution. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol bomb squad searched the property and located possible secondary explosive devices. After the scene was secured, OSBI crime scene investigators began a detailed examination of the home.
Davidson’s body will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further examination. Officials stress this remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional details will be released as they become available.
