STILLWATER, Okla. — The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics has arrested a Stillwater medical professional accused of stealing and using powerful narcotics while working inside an operating room.

According to OBN, investigators with the agency’s Tulsa Diversion Unit received information on January 16 from Stillwater Medical Center alleging that a hospital employee was diverting fentanyl intended for patients. The suspect was identified as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Daniel Boring.

OBN Director Donnie Anderson said the investigation revealed multiple instances where Boring allegedly ingested fentanyl while on duty inside the operating room, then continued assisting with medical procedures. Authorities say at least two incidents involved vulnerable patients, including a minor child and an 84-year-old adult.

OBN agents believe additional cases of drug diversion and abuse may have occurred beyond those already identified. Stillwater Medical Center is continuing to cooperate with investigators as they work to determine the full scope of the alleged activity.

On Tuesday, January 20, OBN agents arrested Boring at his Stillwater residence. He was booked into the Payne County Jail on charges including larceny or theft of a controlled substance and abuse, neglect, or exploitation by a caretaker.

OBN encourages anyone with information related to drug diversion or trafficking to report tips anonymously through the agency’s hotline or social media channels.
