Just after 2pm today, Wednesday, January, 14th, 2026 a 911 call reported the fire spreading rapidly along Highway 69 near the Wagoner – Mayes county line. With high winds and very dry conditions the grass fire is estimated to have burned 20 or more acres before crews were able to gain control.

Fire departments responding included Whitehorn Cove Fire Department, Wagoner Fire Department, Pryor Fire Department, and Chouteau Fire Department. Multiple tanker trucks were also deployed to assist with water supply as the fire continued to spread quickly.
After an aggressive response, firefighters were eventually able to bring the blaze under control. No injuries were reported, and officials continue to remind residents that any spark can quickly turn into a dangerous fire during these conditions.

Authorities are urging the public to avoid activities that could ignite grass fires until conditions improve.
