Oklahoma is in the grip of unseasonably warm weather this weekend, driven by a persistent upper-level ridge over the southern Plains.

As of Saturday morning, March 21, 2026, temperatures are already climbing rapidly under mostly sunny skies, with highs expected to reach 95-96° in central areas like Oklahoma City and even higher in the southwest and Panhandle. This warmth is well above normal for late March, approaching or tying record highs in some locations.

No precipitation or thunderstorm activity is forecast through Sunday night, as the dry air mass dominates. Winds remain light today but increase from the south tonight into Sunday, gusting 15-25 mph ahead of a cold front. That front will push through Sunday afternoon/evening, shifting winds northerly and dropping temperatures noticeably by Monday.
Fire weather remains a background concern with ongoing dry fuels and low humidity, but no critical conditions are expected in the next 36 hours. A Fire Weather Watch may be needed for Sunday in northeast Oklahoma if winds strengthen further.

Safety tips: Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, never leave children or pets in vehicles, and avoid open burning. For the latest updates, check ONWN. We’ll monitor for any frontal timing shifts.
